Day 14, Weatherford Oklahoma to Purcell Oklahoma

Weather was great today.  No Rain, not much wind, and in the afternoon, the sun was shielded by clouds.  Couldn’t ask for better weather.

We left the historic Route 66 and headed southeast to Purcell, OK.  To start off with, we headed out on Route 66 for about 17.7 miles, before turning south on Route 37.  It was relatively flat for the first few miles.  We had our first rest stop in Hinton, OK.  Just a note - the rest stops are becoming further apart (I am sure this is by design).  The second rest stop was in Minco, OK.  We spent most of the day grinding up hills.  We had rolling hills for most of the ride.  It was down the hill, then up the hill, then down the hill, then up the hill, then down the hill, then up the hill -- I am sure you get the idea.  The downhills weren’t that good either, since the pavement was very rough.  We must have climbed over 100 hills and the whole day seemed like that!  It was just a grinding ride, and those hills could really wear you out.  I look back on my summer training and think about the little hills that we climbed, and they seem so insignificant.  Sometimes it is good to get a little perspective!

Had a good dinner at a Mexican cafe here in Purcell, and then made a trip to the Braum’s for some good ice cream.

Sorry about the dearth of pictures, but I didn’t take too many today.  Perhaps tomorrow....  I would have more to write about, but I just didn’t have the time or energy to take pictures.
