Day 15, Purcell Oklahoma to McAlester Oklahoma

Day 15 is complete.  We rolled on from Purcell, OK to McAlester, OK today.  The weather was cloudy and cool in the morning.  Most mornings have been cool, so we are used to that kind of weather.  Heading east, we have seen some pretty good sunrises.  As of today, we have traveled 1685 miles with 61,180 feet of climbing. Today’s venue was less rollers than yesterday, and less overall climbing, with great weather for the day, even with some winds along the way.

Thinking about yesterday’s ride, it was a good test of adversity and how to deal with it.  It was a hard ride, but everyone prevailed.  And it was a good test for tomorrow’s ride, which will be one of the hardest when we hit the Talimena parkway in the Ouachita Mountains in Arkansas.  It has some hugh climbs with grades as high as 13-15%.  Whatever comes, we will prevail because that is what we do on this ride.  Parts of this ride are periods of self discovery and that is the good part.

One of my good friends, David Thorne wrote a comment in the comments section of this website, and quoted the words of Waite Phillips - “Nothing worthwhile was ever accomplished without the will to start, the enthusiasm to continue, and regardless of temporary obstacles, the persistence to complete.”
Those words are so true for this ride!

Overall, this was a good day, even though I was plagued with a headache for most of the ride.  Tonight, I ate a good supper (pizza buffet, with a chocolate malt), which should provide me with necessary fuel for tomorrow’s big ride.

I hope that tomorrow’s ride goes well, and that I can do a good job of describing the ride.  My understanding is that it is a beautiful ride with awesome scenery.  I am certainly looking forward to that part of the ride.  More tomorrow....
