Pre-ride readiness - part 2
Monday, August 08, 2011 Category: Bike Ride
This morning, I rode from Philmont Scout Ranch out on highway 64 to the hill overlooking Cold Beer, New Mexico (yes, there really is a place called Cold Beer, New Mexico, a favorite hangout for Scouting folks, bikers, and cowboys!!). The ride was 30 miles plus, and was done mostly before the sun came up. I was accompanied by Steve Nelson for the first part of the ride, and another friend for the last part of the ride. The morning was exceptionally warm for this time of the year. The recent days are becoming dry and warm, so it looks like the monsoon season may be ending.
In the evening, I rode south for 20 miles, and the ride included many small hills, and a nice breeze coming from the west. I departed for the ride at 7:00 and completed the ride after the sun had set. It was a beautiful evening, and was just right for this type of ride.
With rides in the morning and evening for my last month of training, I will be doing 50 plus miles a day, which I need to be doing for my upcoming cross country ride. With work from 7:30 am until 5:30 pm, morning and evening rides will be necessary to get in the number of miles per day. Again, I am hoping my training rides will adequately prepare me for the upcoming journey. Wish me luck....
