Day 12, Amarillo Texas to Shamrock Texas

We woke up to a very cold, gray, dark, overcast windy morning.  The weather reports had rain in the forecast for the morning.  Turns out that the forecast was not wrong.  We left Amarillo at 7:30 am in pretty much dark conditions.  After leaving Amarillo we rolled on along I-40.  After about an hour, the rain started.  With the rain and the overcast sky, it was quite cold!  Eventually, the rain stopped, and the sun came out, but the temperature was still chilly.  I didn’t remove most of the layers until lunch at mile 72.

Lunch was awesome, with all of the fixings to make a great burrito!  Lunch food has been great, and the food is definitely fuel for moving along on this ride.  We stopped for lunch in McLean, Texas, right next to the Route 66 museum.  We took some time to visit the museum, and it was a ranching history of Texas.  Lots of interesting artifacts, like barbed wire, farm pictures and implements, ranch brands, and other assorted history items.

We arrived in Shamrock early, and what a gorgeous evening.  The weather tomorrow is for 0% rain along our path, with West winds!!!!!  Should be a good day and I am looking forward to the visit to Oklahoma.

Tomorrow will mark the half way point in the ride.  So, we will have gone half way across the United States by the end of the day!
