Welcome to My Website!
Welcome to my on-line home. The website is my personal website, designed, built, and edited entirely by me. The website is my way of staying connected both to those whom I know and with those I have not yet met who may share similar interests.
You may be wondering about the title - SprocketBob. This comes from one of my main interests, my love of cycling. A number of years ago, a good friend made a "Sprocket" name tag for me, and the name stuck. I just added my first name to the end of the title.
The original thought for a personal website was inspired by my desire to keep family and friends updated on my bicycle ride across America, which I did in 2011. The highlight of this website is the Southern Transcontinental, my epic adventure biking across the United States. The ride took me 26 days, and I blogged the ride each day and kept a photo album of pictures from the ride. The blogs and photos are included on this website.
Since the ride, I have redesigned my original site. Website development is another of my many interests. In my past professional life, I was an engineer. I have since retired, and website development has kept my technical and creative interests and skills alive.
I will be updating the site periodically to present information and opinions on my other interests. I plan to update the site with blogs and photos of my interests and activities. I hope you enjoy the content.

About Me…
My name is Bob Longoria and I live in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I have been married for over forty years, and have three children and five grandchildren.
After attending high school, I spent four years on active duty with the U.S. Air Force, assigned to bases in Texas, Mississippi, Illinois and the Republic of the Philippines. In addition to serving in the Air Force, I spent three and a half years in the Naval Air Reserve with Patrol Squadron VP-65 at NAS Pt. Mugu California. After my tour of duty in the Air Force and a short career as an Electronics Technician working for the Navy in California, I attended California State University where I earned a BS degree in Engineering. I went on to earn an MS degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University. After a 30 year career as an engineer, I retired in 2007 from Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, NM. For half of my career, I managed the Instrumentation Development Department at the labs. The last few years of my career were spent working on National Missile Defense projects.
I am also active in Scouting, serving on the Executive Board of the Great Southwest Council in Albuquerque. In past positions for the council, I served as the Council Commissioner and Vice President of Operations. I have been an adult Scouter for nearly 30 years, and have served in most adult Scouting positions. During the summer, I am gainfully employed by the Boy Scouts as a commissary driver at Philmont Scout Ranch in Northern New Mexico (this was a major change going from engineering to driving a truck!).
I was an active runner for many years, and ran in a number of marathons. Some of the more memorable included the New York City Marathon, the Marine Corp Marathon in Washington, DC, and the St. George Marathon. After so many years of running, I started having problems with my knees, and switched back to the bike. I have been cycling most of my life, starting when I was in high school. In addition to my love of cycling, some of my other interests include motorcycles (I have a Ducati 848 EVO), camping and hiking, amateur radio, computer programming, web development, shooting sports, and fly fishing (not necessarily in that order).
I have a few favorites to share - my favorite food is Mexican (any kind), my favorite movie is "Glory", and my favorite book is "All I need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten". I have a wonderful family, good friends, and I am happy that LIFE IS GOOD!
